FAQs
Answers to hopefully most, if not all, your questions! Please contact me if you have any concerns.
Q: Will you keep me updated on your progress of my commission? Will you send me updates if I ask for them?
A: Yes! I can take screenshots of what I have so far and send them to you. I normally use a flash program to keep track of time and calculate pricing for me and will periodically take screenshots to keep a mental note of how long I have spend on a piece. It isn't perfect though and it occasionally crashes, meaning I have to manually write in the approximate amount of time that was spent during that session. Future screenshots may include watermarks. (See below for Examples).
Q: Will you charge me for final edits and refinements?
A: Sometimes. It depends on how long the edit will take me. If it is a quick fix then I will edit it at no additional charge, however, if it is something that will take me longer than 10 minutes to fix then I will tack it on to your final price.
Q: Do you round up or down on your pricing?
A: Yes, but it will usually be within your favor. For example, if a piece takes 1 hour and 10 minutes then I will only charge you for the hour. Alternatively, if a price ends with anything other than a 00 then I will round it to the closest whole dollar.
Q: When do I pay you?
A: You may pay me at the end of the commission. To ensure that I get paid for my work, there will be watermarks over the images (indicating that the piece has NOT been paid for) until I receive final payment. Because I am not asking for deposits up front, please be patient with me and do not expect the art by the next day.
Q: How long does it take you to complete a piece?
A: It depends on what is being asked of me and how hectic my real job and scholastic responsibilities are at the time. I will keep you updated (since I love conversing with my patrons) and I will let you know if I am currently too busy to accept requests. (The earlier you ask me the better so there is time for me to plan your piece).
I tend to work fairly quickly once I get started. Sketches can be done within an hour or two and full blown pieces can take up to 12 hours. However, I do not have the ability to sit down and do artwork all day and night. Realistically, it can take me a day, to a week, to maybe even 3 weeks to complete a piece (with back and forth submissions of rough drafts, WIPs, and editing of course). You will be charged ONLY for the time I am working on a piece, not the entire time from when you first submit a request. I do this by pausing the timer when I am taking a break, taking a screenshot of the timer when I finish a session, and restarting it when I return to working on it.
Q: Why do some commissions have set pricing and others are hourly?
A: Hourly rates are for larger scale projects which may need multiple edits to become perfect for publications. Set prices are negotiable but they are there for smaller scale pieces which are usually quicker to finish and edit (and would therefore be unprofitable if I actually charged hourly).
